Glam Clams

When I heard that Latifah Saafir was coming to Fabric Depot to teach her Glam Clam Quilt,  I immediately signed up and convinced my mom to do the same.  I have never been good at sewing curves but after seeing the quilt that Beth Wells made at the Pine Needle, using Anna Marie Horner fabrics, I had to make one! I also used Anna Marie Horner fabrics but I was limited due to the scarcity of many of her past lines. I didn’t realize how big my quilt would be until I started to assemble it in class.  I wished I had done the lap size. My mom’s is absolutely amazing, I love that she did solids and her color choices are so perfect! I quilted hers using my new favorite design called Waves and Pearls, it’s spectacular! I started to quilt mine thinking that I would do free motion swirls and feathers but after the first row I realized that it would take forever! So I mixed in digital designs along with free motion, I like how it turned out, it was a great learning experience. And we both did Latifah’s signature chunky binding which is a 1″ binding on the front and back, it’s pretty cool.  I am going to do a smaller Glam Clam quilt using all Pat Bravo’s Indie Folk fabrics, it’s all cut out as you can see in the picture, just need to assemble it.  I highly recommend making one of these quilts!
