I was so happy to hear Frances had another quilt for me!  She is so incredibly talented!  Dawn White taught this Karla Alexander Rewind quilt pattern at The Pine Needle Quilt Shop.  Check out Dawn’s quilt in my previous posts!  Frances’s fabrics are awesome and I love the backing fabric!  The quilting design is called Woven wind, it’s a new favorite of mine for sure.  I can’t wait to see what she does next!

Lucy in the Sky #2

A few weeks ago I quilted Lana’s first Lucy in the Sky Quilt which is up for auction at her Grandson’s school.  I contemplated going to the event to bid on that quilt!  This one she made King size by adding borders, and will go one her bed.  I quilted this one using a feather design which I think is absolutely perfect.  The wool batting makes the feathers pop, I just love the texture.  Great job as always Lana!!

Fancy Forest

Jessica made this Fancy Forest quilt in a class at Modern Domestic.  I made some pillows for my daughter a while ago, the hedgehog and the fox I think, I cannot even imagine making the entire forest!!  Originally Jessica had wanted custom quilting, I considered it but I really felt that the animals and fabrics are the main focus, any fancy custom quilting I do really wouldn’t show so why spend the time and money on custom.  It was a great decision and I was so thrilled she chose Peacock Feathers as the quilting design.  The back is this wonderful flannel and with wool batting it’s an absolute dream!!

Raindrops on cuteness!

I know right????  I was so thrilled to quilt for Ruthie’s sister who lives in San Diego.  She loves to sew but hates to quilt, that’s where I come in.  Barbara and I texted design ideas back and forth, we considered umbrella’s and clouds and all kinds of things.  In the end Barbara chose raindrops. It was a slam dunk, look how amazing it is! The fabrics are adorable and I just love everything about it!  Keep sewing Barbara!

Lucy in the Sky #1

Another stunner from Lana!  This pattern is called Lucy in the Sky by Kristin la Flamme who works at the Pine Needle Quilt Shop.  Lana took this class and not only did she make one for her bed but she made a second for her grandson’s school auction.  She’s amazing!  We talked about designs and chose a feather pattern for her quilt but this one we weren’t sure about.  When she showed me the backing it was a no brainer, Water Drops is perfect!  You probably can’t see it in the picture but the back has these beautiful silver rings.  The quilt is amazing and as usual perfectly pieced!  It will be a little while before I do the second one but am looking forward to it!  I hope this quilt raises a ton of money, I may actually go to the auction and bid on it I love it so much!

Frances’ Stars

This is the fourth quilt I have had the opportunity to quilt for Frances.  They are all beautiful and perfect!  Her talent is amazing it’s hard to believe she is fairly new to quilting.  This one was especially exciting because she designed it herself!!  I know right???  I just love all the different sized stars and I really love how the pink stands out from the neutral background.  The design she chose is called Modern Maze I can’t believe how perfect it looks on this quilt.  Frances even shared her diagrams for how she constructed the quilt if anyone is interested in making one!!

Custom Wall Hanging

Diane was one of my very first customers when I started my quilting business.  I have always done Edge 2 Edge designs so it was fun to finally do a custom quilt for her.  I did a mix of free motion and computer designs.  Deciding what to do in all the borders was challenging.  I love how they came out!  I especially love the outer border where I spiced up a traditional piano key border by adding some floating circles.  She hasn’t seen it yet, I hope she loves it and looks great in her office!

Judy’s stunning quilt

It’s been about a year since I have heard from Judy but she called me a few weeks ago with another quilt!  She is a beautiful quilter and this one is stunning!!  We chose a Kindling design which I think is the perfect compliment to her quilt!

Quilt with a message

Sue made this quilt for her daughter, her very first quilt by the way!  The message in the center has a lot of meaning between the 2 of them.  I quilted it using the Bordeaux design which is one of my absolute favorites.  I loved it that Sue sent me a picture of her daughter loving her new quilt!

Where It’s @

When I brought Stella by Starlight to Dawn, I had no idea she had another quilt for me to do!  I had seen this quilt called Where it’s @ on her blog and loved it immediately!!  The pattern is by Karla Alexander called Rewind which she taught at A Quilters Affair in Sisters over the summer.  Dawn’s fabrics are absolutely stunning and of course her quilting is perfection.  She mentioned she really liked the look of the Modern Curves design.  Although it’s by far one of my absolute favorite quilting designs it has a reputation for being very problematic for longarm quilters.  You may not know this about longarm machines but they don’t like to quilt from right to left for long stretches.  You usually get thread shredding a breakage.  I have had trouble in the past with this design however I was determined to be the master of my machine and knowing how to troubleshoot possible problems only comes with experience.  I really was a wreck about quilting it but once again I just dove in and got started.  It was a huge relief to finish this quilt and the best part is, I didn’t have one single problem, the quilting went flawless and check out how cool it looks!!!  This quilt will be on display at The Pine Needle Quilt Shop soon and of course go to http://www.firstlightdesigns.com to learn more about Dawn and her amazing quilts.
